Our Law office focuses on the following areas of practice:

Divorce proceedings leave you feeling helpless or confused.  I know that this creates stress and fear, and I strive to take as much of that out of the process as possible.  I am a highly skilled negotiator and litigator who represents individuals in all facets of family law.  My experience in the courtroom makes me a better negotiator.  My experience as a parent and spouse makes me a more understanding litigator.

I routinely handle cases involving several Family Law issues, including:

  • Divorce
  • Custody
  • Alimony
  • Child Support
  • Alimony and Maintenance
  • Property Division
  • Separation Agreements
  • Guardianships
  • Prenuptial Agreements

I have represented business clients in several different industries, including banks, commercial lenders, construction companies, land developers, and property management companies, just to name a few.  My broad experience in business matters combined with my personalized approach allows me to provide the perspective necessary to advise clients how to best protect their interests.

I also handle a variety of non-litigation business law matters, including:

The incorporation of businesses, including the filing of all necessary paperwork with the State Department of Assessments & Taxation;

Business transfers, employment agreements, preparation and review of business contracts and commercial leases.

If litigation arises in the business or commercial arena, as a litigator, I have extensive experience in complex matters, having tried hundreds of cases at all levels of state and federal courts and in commercial arbitrations in multiple jurisdictions. I provide litigation counsel to businesses of all sizes and in all industries, including in the following areas:

Contract disputes,

Business torts, including fraud claims

Shareholder, membership (LLC) and partnership disputes;

Employment contract disputes,

Real estate disputes;

Commercial collections;

Attorneys’ fees for commercial and business litigation are based on individual client needs. Clients are normally billed at an hourly fee.

I have a long history of handling many types of personal injury claims, including injuries resulting from motor vehicle collisions, medical malpractice, product liability, wrongful death, slip and fall incidents, and other injuries resulting from the negligent acts of others.

I am well trained in fairly evaluating cases so that our clients can anticipate and appreciate realistic outcomes. When cases can be resolved fairly for all, through mediation, arbitration, or other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods, I can aid in achieving that result. When cases must be tried, I recognize that as well and can tap into my extensive experience in the courtroom.

Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency fee basis, meaning that we are paid only if we obtain a recovery on your behalf.

Estates & Probate covers the administration of the estate of a decedent. The complexity of an estate depends on the assets owned. I advise personal representatives and trustees on all aspects of estate and trust administration, including the court-supervised administration of a decedent’s estate known as “probate.”  I will work with Personal Representatives to ensure that all necessary documents are filed with the Register of Wills, appropriate notices are placed, required taxes are paid, and distributions are made in a timely manner. An Estate paralegal is utilized to help minimize the legal fees incurred by the estate when possible.

In addition, I also have vast experience in representing beneficiaries, executors and trustees in probate and trust litigation. While I generally avoid the expense and delays involved in litigation whenever possible, I have considerable experience in handling estate administration controversies such as will disputes or alleged breaches of fiduciary duties.

I prepare a number of estate planning documents, including Last Will & Testaments, Wills containing Trusts, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, General Powers of Attorney, Medical Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills (also known as Advanced Directives.) A proper estate plan establishes the mechanisms and procedures for managing and disposing of one’s assets during life and after death, and use of an attorney can help to ensure that your property benefits the those who matter most to you while minimizing or deferring the impact of state and federal taxes..

It is important to plan ahead and decide who will handle your affairs in the event of your illness or demise.

There are frequent changes in this area of law. Keep in mind that existing estate planning documents should be periodically reviewed, particularly whenever there is a significant change in your circumstances (i.e. marriage, divorce, birth of a child, etc.).

Criminal Law covers a broad range of categories, including traffic citations, DUI, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances, Assault, Battery, Theft, and other misdemeanors. In the case of traffic charges, we also handle hearings before the Motor Vehicle Administration. If you are charged by the state or county, it is important that you have competent representation.

Depending upon the charges involved, attorneys’ fees may be billed at either a flat rate or hourly fee. We can discuss this with you further, and advise you of your options.

I have vast experience in handling construction law cases and I am  knowledgeable and experienced in the building industry as well as the law that applies. We had an issue with a contractor who was performing work at our home, including the construction of an addition.  We ran into several problems with the contractor, who had grown very hostile, and no work was being performed at my house.  Jerry was able to deal with the situation with the attorney for the contractor so that the situation resolved and the project was finished by another contractor.  Jerry’s knowledge of contract law is first rate and I am grateful for his assistance in this matter.  I highly recommend Jerry to anyone who needs legal assistance.

I had a payment issue with a tenant at one of my properties.  Jerry moved quickly to eject the tenant from my property so I could prepare the property for future rental.  He also was able to garner a judgment against the tenant for damage done to the property.  I highly valued Jerry’s skill and advice.

I want to thank Jerry for representing me over the last several months. This has been the worst time of my life, being charged with a DUI.  Having his representation brought a tremendous feeling of peace to me. Jerry was always there when I had questions and I am very satisfied with his representation.  Despite the turmoil I felt at the beginning, now that the matter has concluded, I now feel confident that I can get on with my life.

I was sued in my capacity as personal representative of my mother’s estate.  The purchaser of my mother’s home brought suit against the estate arising of the alleged concealment of defects in the home.  Jerry very aggressive in defending the lawsuit and his skill and knowledge of Maryland tort and contract law was exceptional.  He was able to get the matter dismissed before trial and even recovered attorney’s fees that the estate expended to defend the litigation.  I highly recommend Jerry and his firm.
